🚐 Paratransit (ADA)
It's the Law
The ADA requires every public transit agency to provide paratransit service for people who cannot use fixed-route buses or trains due to a disability or health condition.
What You Get
- Door-to-door pickup and dropoff
- Service within ¾ mile of any bus route
- Same hours as regular transit
- Fares no more than 2x regular bus fare
How to Apply
- Contact your local transit agency
- Complete an application (may require doctor's note)
- Some agencies require in-person assessment
- Once approved, call ahead to schedule rides
🏥 Non-Emergency Medical Transport (NEMT)
Medicaid (Medi-Cal in CA)
If you have Medicaid, you're entitled to free transportation to medical appointments. Call your Medicaid managed care plan or the state NEMT broker to schedule.
Medicare Advantage
Many Medicare Advantage plans include transportation benefits — typically 24-48 rides per year to medical appointments. Check your plan's Summary of Benefits.

How They Work
